  2. Jan 13, 2013 · I'm pretty sure they used a stamp to label the paper. The one I use I print from my PC printer, onto the paper before wrapping the cartridges. The Confederates required labels on their arsenal Packs from all arsenals, and the British imported ammo had labels as well.

I did a search on the forum and found previous posts that revealed that all Federal arsenals, with the exception of St. Louis, stopped labeling arsenal packs by 1861.

It's my understanding that ten rounds or so were placed inside of small packs inside of the crates. I've seen several boxes that have been reproduced from originals that say "Elongated Ball" or "Conical Ball" on them.
