It functioned as a place in which his conservation principles and environmental philosophies could be put into practice.
The Shack. The Shack—a rebuilt chicken coop along the Wisconsin River that has become a global icon for the conservation movement—is where Aldo Leopold and his family stayed during weekend retreats. Today, the Shack energizes a wide audience as the heart of the Aldo Leopold Foundation’s programs.
