Alibi Ike is a 1935 American romantic comedy film directed by Ray Enright and starring Joe E. Brown, Olivia de Havilland and William Frawley.Based on the short story of the same name by Ring Lardner, first published in the Saturday Evening Post on July 31, 1915, the film is about an ace baseball player nicknamed "Alibi Ike" for his penchant for making up excuses.

Synopsis. The Chicago Cubs have been doing badly, and Cap, the coach, must win the pennant to keep his job. His only hope is rookie pitcher Frank X. Farrell, who still hasn't arrived for spring training. When Frank finally does arrive, he has several stories about why he is late.

The plot weaves its way towards a climax in which Brown escapes the gamblers by commandeering an ambulance and driving onto the ball field during the final Series game. Alibi Ike was the most successful of Joe E. Brown's "baseball trilogy" (which included Elmer the Great and Fireman Save My Child), and one the best baseball comedies of all time.
