Alliance Atlantis was founded in 1998 as a merger of Alliance Entertainment Corporation and Atlantis Communications, which were founded in 1984 and 1978, respectively. The company operated both an English and French-Canadian division, the latter under the name "Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm" (formerly "Vivafilm Ltée").
Headquartered in Toronto, Alliance Atlantis operates offices in Los Angeles, Montreal, Edmonton, London, Sydney, and Shannon.
