As a member of the AZA, the Caldwell Zoo participates in many breeding projects. Animals born at the zoo include reticulated giraffes , flamingoes , black rhinoceros , jaguars , giant anteaters , and many others.
The zoo is based in the city of Tyler, nestled in the rolling hills of East Texas. Our campus is conveniently located on the northwest side of the city with easy access from Highway 69 or Loop 323. The main entrance is just off the intersection of West Gentry Parkway and Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.

More than 3,000 individual animals from over 200 species live at the zoo. Each habitat is custom-built to provide a safe and comfortable home for its occupants. Many of the species at the Caldwell Zoo are endangered or threatened in the wild.
Yes it's true their collection is not the biggest. But they have some of the coolest, most realistic, natural enclosures set up. My fave area is the East Africa section. You can watch Giraffes, Elephants, Zebras, Warthogs and various hoofed animals roaming together and interacting naturally.
