The Catherine Palace ( Russian: Екатерининский дворец, romanized : Yekaterininskiy dvorets) is a Rococo palace in Tsarskoye Selo ( Pushkin ), located 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of St. Petersburg, Russia. It was the summer residence of the Russian tsars.
Catherine Palace is a grandiose palace named after Catherine I, the wife of Peter the Great, who ruled Russia for two years after his death. It was built by her daughter Elizabeth in the 18th century and redesigned by Rastrelli in the 18th century. The palace features elaborately decorated blue-and-white facades, gilded interiors, and the famous Amber Room with amber mosaic panels.
