Charles II (29 May 1630 – 6 February 1685) was King of Scotland from 1649 until 1651 and King of England, Scotland, and Ireland from the 1660 Restoration of the monarchy until his death in 1685. Charles II was the eldest surviving child of Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland and Henrietta Maria of France .

Charles II, (born May 29, 1630, London, Eng.—died Feb. 6, 1685, London), King of Great Britain and Ireland (1660–85). Son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria, he supported his father in the English Civil Wars. After his father’s execution, he invaded England in 1651 but was defeated at Worcester.
On 1 January 1651, the Scots crowned Charles II at Scone (this turned out to be the last such Coronation at Scone). In July, the English army marched into Fife and then captured Perth, while the Scottish forces headed south into England, where they were defeated at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651.
