The Conciergerie (French pronunciation: [kɔ̃sjɛʁʒəʁi]) is a building in Paris, France, located on the west of the Île de la Cité, formerly a prison but presently used mostly for law courts. It was part of the former royal palace, the Palais de la Cité , which consisted of the Conciergerie, Palais de Justice and the Sainte-Chapelle .
The Conciergerie became one of the principal places of detention during the French Revolution, with the installation of the Revolutionary Court. Its most famous prisoner was Marie-Antoinette. During the Restoration, a commemorative chapel was erected on the site of her cell.
