Alec Clunes died from lung cancer on 13 March 1970, aged 57. He left a widow, his son, and a daughter, Amanda Clunes.
Clunes was born on 28 November 1961 in Wimbledon (then in Surrey, now in Greater London), the son of actor Alec Clunes and his second wife, Daphne (née Acott) Clunes (4 July 1928 – 17 September 2007). Clunes was educated at the Royal Russell School in Croydon, and later at the Arts Educational Schools, London.
