Footprints on the Moon is neither a giallo nor a horror nor even a thriller really, more a kind of vaguely surreal mystery-come-psychodrama which unpacks its dreamlike contents at a glacial pace, the washed-out palette and occasional lapses into un-subtitled Italian dialogue seeming to intensify the mood of uneasy somnolence.
