Granton Gas Works with its own branch rail line and railway station. The gasworks began production of coal gas in 1902. The Granton Gas Works was built on land purchased from the 6th Duke of Buccleuch The area being outside both Edinburgh and Leith boundaries. When Edinburgh expanded its boundary in 1900 the lands were incorporated into Edinburgh.
