Andries Hendrik Potgieter was a Voortrekker leader who fought in the Fourth and Fifth Frontier Wars and founded the Boer republic of Transvaal. He was a sheep farmer, explorer and diplomat who visited Delagoa Bay and founded Potchefstroom. He died in 1852 at Schoemansdal.
