Indo-Iranian peoples, also known as Indo-Iranic peoples by scholars, [1] and sometimes as Arya or Aryans from their self-designation, were a group of Indo-European peoples who brought the Indo-Iranian languages, a major branch of the Indo-European language family, to major parts of Eurasia in the second part of the 3rd millennium BC.
The Indo-Iranian languages (also Indo-Iranic languages [1] [2] or Aryan languages [3]) constitute the largest and southeasternmost extant branch of the Indo-European language family. They include over 300 languages, spoken by around 1.5 billion speakers, predominantly in South Asia, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia .
