Albert "King" Cole (Fred MacMurray) is a promising young boxer with an enterprising manager, Pop Hardy (Charles Ruggles), who wants to sell an interest in Cole's up-and-coming career to a wealthy businessman. Cole's boastful, arrogant manner infuriates the businessman's daughter, Eleanor (Irene Dunne), at first, but she soon falls for him in spite of herself.
