John Evander Couey (September 19, 1958 – September 30, 2009) was an American sex offender convicted of kidnapping, raping, and murdering nine-year old Jessica Lunsford in February 2005, in Florida. Lunsford's disappearance and Couey's subsequent confession and trial received extensive media coverage.

Lunsford was abducted from her home in the early morning of February 24, 2005, by John Couey, a 46-year-old convicted sex offender who lived nearby. John Couey was being hunted for a felony drug charge when he was arrested three weeks after the murder. He admitted to the kidnapping and Jessica’s body was soon found by the police. During the trial many facts were brought to light about how Jessica would have survived 3-5 minutes in the trash bag while suffocating.
