ASUSTeK Computer Inc., usually referred to as Asus, [1] is a computer hardware and electronics company. It was founded in Taipei in 1989 by T.H. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh and M.T. Liao. [2] Asus is the world's fifth-largest PC vendor by 2013 unit sales (after Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Acer ). [3]

Asus was founded in Taipei in 1989 by T.H. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh and M.T. Liao, all four having previously worked at Acer as hardware engineers. At this time, Taiwan had yet to establish a leading position in the computer hardware business.

T. H. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh and M.T. Liao founded Asus in 1989, in Taipei, Taiwan. They were all colleagues at Acer in the company’s hardware engineering department.
