Harry Bliss (Jack Nicholson) operates a struggling security service and contends with numerous personal problems, including a faltering marriage. When vocalist Joan Spruance (Ellen Barkin) is threatened and excessively harassed, she hires Harry to provide her with guard-dog protection.
