Marcelo H. del Pilar was born in Kupang, San Nicolas, Bulacan, on August 30 1850. His parents were Julian H. del Pilar and Blasa Gatmaitan. As a boy, he studied first in the college ow. ned by Mrs. Herminigilda Flores, then at the San Jose College, form where he transferred to the University of Santo Tomas. He finished law in 1880.
