In a lab, Joseph Rainier tests Harry's alien ball with the aid of his DNA. It seems to respond. Meanwhile, in the Patience Health Clinic, Harry mopes over Heather's betrayal. Asta confronts him in his office, complaining about the 1970s heartbreak song he's been listening to on a loop. She tells him she's sorry, but that they have a lot of patients. He shouts that he doesn't care whether they live or die. She tells him that he might want to keep that inside, then go home and finish his bomb. She tells him that his first patient is Mayor Ben Hawthorne for therapy. He tells her he doesn't care if Ben dies. "Well, that makes two of us," comments Ben, appearing behind. At the Hawthorne family home, Kate wakes up. She discovers that she is still handcuffed to the bed, as she was the night before, having done so in the hopes that it would protect her from being abducted by the Grey aliens. She reaches for the key, but then drops it, and is forced to try to perform contortions with her foot in the hopes of reaching it. Failing, she makes a phone call. Back at the clinic, Ben tells Harry that there's someone at work that he's having a problem with. "Sheriff Mike," Harry correctly identifies, though Ben tries to deny it at first. He tells Harry that Mike is up to something, that he's lying and sneaking around. "Don't trust anyone!" Harry tells him, saying that you can never truly know how someone feels. He spins a scenario, saying that he could wake up every morning next to Mike, feeding him sunflower seeds, but it could all be a lie. Ben sarcastically thanks him for the image and Harry tells him he only has himself. Ben says that what he means is that he's giving Mike the power in the relationship and that he needs to take his power back. Harry tells him he didn't say that, but Ben tells him he's starting to get him. "Great session," he tells him. Harry shouts at him to turn out the light, then turns the song back on. Asta comes in, shouting that she's pulling the plug. "Not something you want to hear in a doctor's office," comments her biological mother, Mary-Ellen Taylor. Asta is stunned to see her mother. She tells her she's sorry for how she was when she saw her last, that she wasn't in the best place. She tells her it doesn't matter, asking if she wants to know about her family and her history. She tells her they could grab some food and talk. Asta looks thoughtful. Meanwhile, at the Patience Sheriff's Office, Deputy Liv tells Sheriff Mike that they have a problem, that she used the trick he taught her and that somebody has touched their murder investigation board. He tells her that he thinks it was Mayor Ben, given his recent questions about their movements. She agrees that this is likely, given that he's spying on them right now. Mike tells her that it's fine, that he doesn't have anything, and they'll just tell him they're playing a game. She reminds him that he had said he found another chemist they could talk to about the formula. He asks if she's back on this with him and she agrees, telling him that she doesn't want to let being afraid stop her from doing what's right. She tells him she has a crazy plan to catch Joseph. Mike points out it'll be a lot harder with Ben watching them. "Be a little harder," he amends, as Ben knocks down the blinds, making it very obvious what he's doing.

    The worst father ever

Harry arrives home in his cabin to unexpectedly find Liza Vanderspeigle, the daughter of the human Harry Vanderspeigle, sitting at the dinner table. "Hello, Dad," she greets him. He tells her it is not a good time for a visit, suggesting she come back when it's warmer and they could throw a ball. "So you want to send me away again," she complains, and he counters that he didn't, that he put her on a nice bus and even gave her his last apple. She shouts that he couldn't wait to get rid of her and tosses a knife at him, which he dodges. He tells her she's being naughty, saying he's going to limit her screentime. She complains that it was freezing, flipping over the table. Witnessing this display of strength, Harry realizes something. She tries to tackle him. "Bridget," he says. This is actually his alien son. "My baby, it's you!" he greets him, telling him he likes his new skin, but he headbutts and then kicks him. He lifts him by the neck and he compliments him on re-creating Liza's clothing. "You're the worst father ever and I hate you," he tells him. Harry asks if he wants him dead, but he lets him down, telling him not yet. He says that he has something else planned, worse than death. When he asks what, he tells him he guesses he'll see and leaves. D'arcy arrives at the Hawthorne family home and unlocks Kate's handcuff. She thanks her, telling her she has to pee really bad. D'arcy tells her that she's not asking why she was handcuffed to the bed, that it's the mature thing and she wants credits. Kate tells her it's not a sex thing, so it's not weird, but she says that would be the non-weird explanation. Kate tells her that sometimes you just love your bed so much, you don't want to be taken from it. D'arcy gets a weird look on her face. Kate comes back in, saying it's too crazy to talk about, but D'Aarcy tells her that she's the least crazy person she knows in the world. She says that whatever's happening to her might not be so crazy, and that she should stay open. Harry goes up Max on the sidewalk, greeting him as "Hey, dickhead!" He tries to enlist Max's help in finding Bridget. Max, however, is not into it. He says that it sucks for him, complaining that Harry got him grounded for taking his caldera. He tells Harry that he only ever spends time with him when he wants something, then treats him like he's not even alive. At this, Harry takes back the taser, saying that he is no longer the Alien Tracker. Max tells him to keep it, saying that he doesn't care and he wishes he'd never come to Patience. Meanwhile, at the 59, Asta talks with Mary-Ellen about the information she has on their family. It soon becomes clear, however, that what Mary-Ellen is after is money. She asks for $750 as compensation for getting it all together and then driving up there.

    Worse than death

Wearing sunglasses, Mayor Ben spies on Mike and Liv from a van outside the restaurant Maya Norte. He takes a phone call. It is Mike, putting on a silly voice and claiming to be calling from Max' school, saying that he's caused a problem at school and they need him to pick him up. Ben points out that Kate works there, but Mike tells him that she said he needs to come too because it's that bad. Ben tells him he'll be right there. He then starts the van, then repeatedly goes forward and backs up, before finally taking off. At the 59, Bridget sneaks inside in his alien form. He then assumes Harry's form and proceeds to make a terrible scene, shouting at D'arcy and calling himself the biggest drunk in town. He shouts about how he sends children away without any snacks. When D'arcy asks what he is doing, he says he drinks alcohol because he is an adult human. She tells him he has to get over Heather, that the Greys are taking Kate too and she needs him to do something. She is then distracted by a call from her mother, as Bridget hits on a random woman at the bar. Asta discusses the situation with Mary-Ellen with Kayla, telling her that it's hard to understand for someone who's not adopted. She says for most people their life story is like a novel, but hers was torn out of a book and Mary-Ellen has the pages. Kayla tells her it's wrong for Mary-Ellen to sell her the pages. She tells her she will never go away if she pays her. Harry shows up, and Asta asks what happened, that she heard he got banned from Mama Sap's. A brief flashback shows Bridget in Harry's form standing on the porch of Mama Sap's, shouting "The cheese comes from her toes! Stay away!" He thinks to himself that this what Bridget meant by "worse than death. He is going to destroy my life here." Asta asks him what's doing on and he tells her that he hasn't been a strong enough parent. D'arcy arrives at a hospital to find her mother sitting by a hospital bed containing her father. She asks how he is and she tells her it isn't good, that his heart stopped. She asks what they were even doing in Colorado and she tells her that it was her cousin Louisa's birthday. They get into an argument over whether or not D'arcy remembers her. She takes off to have a drink, telling D'arcy that she could apologize for being late. "Bullshit," comments her father. He tells her that he's the one who should be apologizing to her for telling her to live her life in a different way. She says he must be on some good drugs, but he tells her he once saw one of her World Cup races. He saw how she was fearless, with such bravery. He tells her she's his hero. "I'm your hero?" she asks, incredulous, but he tells her he had things he wanted to do, but he took the safe way, not like her. She asks how he would feel if she didn't have any more races. He tells her she would do something else great. Stunned, but pleased, she takes his hand.

"I quit that gifted program I was in. Everyone was older and they were all so smart. And I was just average. I've never been average. It's like you. Here, you're smarter than most humans, but on your planet, you're probably really dumb."

"No, I was exceptional there, too. (thinking to himself) A C student at best."
