- He's been in the NFL for decades. There aren't many people -- executives, coaches or players -- who have been around the NFL as long as Spielman. Over half of the former general manager's life -- 34 years, to be exact -- has been dedicated to the league, and he's had success almost everywhere he's been.
- He knows how to identify. You don't stay with an organization for 16 years unless you know how to get the best talent in the league to play for you. It wasn't perfect -- nothing ever is in the NFL -- but Spielman certainly developed a reputation for identifying the best prospects and bringing them to Minnesota.
- He's already given some thoughts about how front offices should be structured. Other than the statement Spielman provided earlier this week, when he said he was "thrilled to apply my experience in the NFL and collaborate with Josh, Bob and the ownership group to identify the best leaders to guide the Commanders forward," we likely won't hear from Spielman again until the process is over.

His 29 interceptions are tied for sixth-most in team history, and no Viking has scored m...
Barr was the first pick of the Mike Zimmer era, and his versatility would define Zimmer's defense for years to come. The 2015 draft was Spielman's magnum opus. Though first-round pick Trae Waynes didn't earn a second contract with the team, he was a solid second cornerback in his years in Minnesota. Beyond the first round, though, Spielman nailed three huge picks. In the second round, he took linebacker Eric Kendricks out of UCLA. Kendricks has been among the bes...
Jefferson was taken with the Bills' first-rounder, and he has not only replaced Diggs but surpassed him as one of the best receivers in the league.
