In this text we propose to set forth not a complete history of the Town of Scituate. This is a very abbreviated account giving the fundamentals of such history, and which might be of interest to our newer citizens and to those who may at some time wish to become residents.
More than 500 years of history can be discovered in Scituate, from the Native Americans who fished these waters and the “Men of Kent” whose names are emblazoned on our street signs, to captains of sea and industry. Scituate is situated exactly halfway between Boston and Plymouth and has the best natural harbor between the two.
