Excited crowds gathered to behold the renowned Albanian hero and champion of Christendom “Skanderbeg,” who had bravely held back the relentless Turkish advance toward the west. More than 60 years earlier, around 1405, in the mountainous Dibra region of eastern Albania, Voisana, wife of Gjon Kastrioti, gave birth to Gjergi, the future Skanderbeg.
