SOULEYE is a rapper whose music is as varied and winding as the path that has taken him from the backwoods of Massachusetts to the top of Mount Shasta. A multi-genre master, his music transcends genre, blending elements of hip hop, electronic, R & B, soul, and trip-hop.
He was, as Souleye puts it, “a kid named Sam who wanted to make beats.” Souleye had a spare room in Florida and a desire to make music. So Sam hopped on a Greyhound south. A year later, he was on Jam Cruise, a hip-hop festival organized by Mark Brown. On this cruise, Souleye’s music began to draw the attention of Bela Fleck and Les Claypool.
Blending traditional elements of hip hop, EDM and numerous other styles; Souleye’s music crosses the boundaries of genre, defies convention and inspires listeners with uplifting lyrics coupled with both traditional and unusual hip hop beats and samples. His first album, Soul Sessions was released in 2002.
