Tadeusz Kościuszko, (born Feb. 4, 1746, Mereczowszczyzna, Pol.—died Oct. 15, 1817, Solothurn, Switz.), Polish patriot who fought in the American Revolution. He studied military engineering in Paris and went to America in 1776, where he joined the colonial army. He helped build fortifications in Philadelphia, Pa., and at West Point, N.Y.
Biography. Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko (English: Andrew Thaddeus Bonaventure Kosciuszko; 4 or 12 February 1746 – 15 October 1817) was a Polish military engineer, statesman, and military leader who became a national hero in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, France and the United States.
After months of suffering from poor health, Kościuszko suffered a fall from his horse. After being taken to a home in Solothurn, Switzerland, Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko passed away at the age of 71 after suffering a stroke as a result of his injuries.
