In order to capitalize on the growing popularity of comic books, especially those starring superheroes, Goodman created Timely, which, after one other name change, became Marvel Comics in the early 1960s.
It's always important to celebrate the classics. Presenting the mainstream Marvel Universe! 1961-1963 was Marvel's "Silver Age", marking a transition out of Timely Comics, into the Marvel Comics name we know today.
