More than half of the film seems to be about Hugo Stiglitz, joined in later scenes by Andres Garcia, and his enjoyment of the beach party lifestyle and dalliance with various of the women who hang out there.

I'm guessing this 86 minute version removes a lot of the sexual elements, especially the menage a trois relationship that is the central theme of the European version.

Tintorera is a 1977 Mexican-British horror film directed by René Cardona Jr. and starring Susan George, Hugo Stiglitz, Fiona Lewis and Andrés García. It is based on the novel of the same name by oceanographer Ramón Bravo, who studied the species of shark known as 'tintorera' and discovered the sleeping sharks of Isla Mujeres.
