Vasily Grigoryevich Perov (born Vasily Grigorevich Kridener in Tobolsk, Tyumen) was the illegitimate son of the lawyer Baron G. K. Kridener. In 1846, he received his first art training at the provincial Arzamas School of Art run by the realist painter Alexander Stupin.
