Vassar College ( / ˈvæsər / VASS-ər) is a private liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States. Founded in 1861 by Matthew Vassar, it was the second degree-granting institution of higher education for women in the United States. The college became coeducational in 1969.

Education and work. Slade attended Vassar College where she completed her B.A. in Mathematics. She did her M.A. in Mathematics at University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D in Economics at George Washington University. Her Ph.D thesis focused on the mining industry, in particular Copper-Aluminum Substitution and Recycling.
