Westminster Cathedral is relatively ‘modern’ in historical terms. Building only began in 1895 and the Cathedral was completed just eight years later in 1903 but its unique architecture reflects the influences of ancient Christian churches and its construction marks a pivotal moment in the history of the Church in England and Wales.

Westminster Cathedral was started in 1895. Our architect was John Francis Bentley. The first mass was said in the Cathedral in 1903, in our Lady's Chapel. And the Cathedral itself was consecrated in 1910. We are the principal church in England and Wales. The Cathedral is a house of prayer. It's in the center of London. It's a sacred space.
Alongside our schedule of Confessions, Masses and other liturgies, the website features a series of short videos, of two to three minutes each, which introduce the main highlights of the history, architecture and decoration of the Cathedral. Each one incorporates the music of our world-famous choir.
