Captain Video and His Video Rangers is a science-fiction television series, which aired new episodes from 27th June 1949 to 1st April 1955. Set in 2254, the show starred Richard Coogan, and later Al Hodge, as Captain Video, a scientist who would invent various technologies and lead the Video Rangers in thwarting the diabolical plans of numerous antagonists throughout the universe.

The long-running series, set in Earth's distant future, tracked the adventures of a group of fighters for truth and justice, known as The Video Rangers. They were led by Captain Video (no first name ever was mentioned). The Video Rangers operated from a secret base on a mountaintop whose location was unspecified.
I remember Captain Video and His Video Rangers with fond memories. Captain Video had special effects that were state of the art, even by todays standards. Special effects were so good that they looked real. Science fiction writers like Author C. Clarke and Jack Vance wrote and contributed scripts to Captain Video.

Originally, only three Rangers were seen on camera: The Video Ranger; Ranger Rogers, the communications officer; and Ranger Gallagher. (These were also the only Rangers seen in the 1951 film serial version of the series.) As the budget increased, a larger roster of Rangers was briefly seen on TV.
Old Western films were shown via the Captain’s “Remote Tele-Carrier” and the cowboys were billed as the Captain’s cohorts in his battle against interplanetary injustice, but they were only there as an inexpensive way to fill up airtime. In 1953, the series was cut back to once a week and retitled The Secret Files of Captain Video.
