Welcome. The Alpena lighthouse was awarded and then deeded to the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy in July of 2013 from the Federal Government for preservation. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Alpena Lighthouse. The City of Alpena straddles Thunder Bay River where it empties into the protected waters of Thunder Bay. The seventy-mile-long river with its three main branches drains a good portion of the surrounding country and was a natural conduit for the lumber industry.
Visitors can view the lighthouse anytime and are welcome to do so from a boat or the Alpena Municipal Breakwall located adjacent to Bay View Park on Prentiss Street which runs off of South Harbor Drive. The tower is currently closed for general public tours.
The Alpena Light, also known as the Thunder Bay River Lighthouse or Alpena Breakwater Light, is a lighthouse on Lake Huron near Alpena, Michigan. Standing on the north breakwater of Alpena Harbor, the light marks the entrance to the Thunder Bay River from Thunder Bay.

It stands approximately 150 feet from shore atop the north breakwater at the mouth of the Thunder Bay River in the city of Alpena, Michigan. This lighthouse helps guide mariners on Lake Huron into Alpena's sheltered harbor.
Most lighthouses are open mid-May through mid-October. While the tower is closed, you can take a virtual tour of the lighthouse as well as look at a current web cam view of the Thunder Bay River Entrance. The Alpena Lighthouse is located at the end of the northern Alpena breakwall at the entrance to the Thunder Bay River.
