Photographs by Anders Petersen and JH Engström. From Back Home is a collaboration between two of Sweden’s leading photographers, Anders Petersen (b. 1944) and JH Engström (b. 1969), focusing on the Värmland region, one of the most sparsely populated provinces in Sweden.
Born in Karlstad in 1969, JH Engström is a Swedish photographer and video artist. He lives and works between Paris and Smedsby (Värmland, Sweden). JH Engström first grew up in the remote province of Värmland in central Sweden until the family moved to Paris when he was 10 years old.

Synopsis. When Swedish photographer JH Engström films his compatriot Anders Petersen (who was also his teacher and whose assistant and friend he became), he's doing much more than making a portrait or a documentary about a photographer. Both are steeped in the same humanity, which informs their photographic approach.

JH ENGSTRÖM - BIOGRAPHY. JH Engström was born in 1969. He grew up in Sweden but spent a lot of time in Paris and France during his childhood and adolescence. He was an assistant to photographer Mario Testino 1991 in Paris, and 1993 assisted photographer Anders Petersen in Stockholm.
After settling in Stockholm in 1993, he shared a lab with the photographer Anders Petersen, whose expressive style had a determining influence on him. His insatiable curiosity led him to New York between 1998 and 2000, where he had the opportunity to spend time in Robert Frank's studio.
