Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev was born on March 7, 1878, in Astrakhan, Russian Empire (currently Russian Federation) to a family of Mihail Lukic Kustodiev and Ekaterina Prokhorovna Kustodieva. Mihail Lukic taught philosophy, history of literature and logic art at the Astrakhan theological seminary. To earn more money, he gave private lessons.
