The Burgos Cathedral is located in the historical centre of the Spanish city of the same name, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, in the northern Iberian Peninsula. The inscribed property encompasses 1.03 ha. Construction on the Cathedral began in 1221 and was completed in 1567.
In 1885, the cathedral was recognised as a National Monument, which aided its restoration after it was looted by French troops during the War of Independence. In 1984, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And now, you can say that you know the history of one of the greatest treasures of Spanish Gothic architecture.
Although it is predominantly Gothic, the cathedral also displays other artistic styles, given that it was built over a period lasting from 1221 to 1795. Its main façade is the Puerta del Perdón, with a starred rose-window and a gallery of statues of the Castile monarchs.

Burgos itself was founded in 884 by Diego Rodríguez Porcelos, the Count of Castile, though the surrounding region has been inhabited since time immemorial. In the XIII Century, the old Roman Cathedral is taken down and over its ruins, the curren Burgos Cathedral is built in the year 1221, an outstanding gothic element in the city and one of the most beautiful cathedrals across the globe.
