Upon a visit to the DHS offices, the swivel chair stands out like a (beautiful) sore thumb amidst ubiquitous modern office furniture. It is in very good condition.
Cass Gilbert selected 75 of these chairs for offices throughout the Minnesota State Capitol. They were manufactured by Marble & Shattuck Chair Company in Cleveland, Ohio. By 1989, only 18 of Gilbert’s original order remained in the Capitol.
Folsom House Historic Site in Taylors Falls has two matching 1087 Armchairs that came from the 1905 Minnesota State Capitol Building. They were originally purchased by architect Cass Gilbert for 1905 Capitol offices.
