Anhalt-Bernburg. Anhalt-Bernburg was a principality of the Holy Roman Empire and a duchy of the German Confederation ruled by the House of Ascania with its residence at Bernburg in present-day Saxony-Anhalt. It emerged as a subdivision from the Principality of Anhalt from 1252 until 1468, when it fell to the Ascanian principality of Anhalt-Dessau.
He married Catherine of Anhalt-Bernburg on 6 October 1356. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 8 daughters. He died on 25 July 1373, in Gehrden, Jerichow I, Province of Saxony, Prussia, Germany, at the age of 45, and was buried in Leveste, Gehrden, Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany.
