First of all, at the height of the season, make reservations and be in line at the appointed time for sailing. You can't stay with your vehicle, so make sure you have everything you need before moving to the passenger decks. Cafe at the stern has decent food, beer and wine. Souveniers are available.
The ferry is comfortable and the crew is always friendly. Customs is very simple and well-staffed, take your passport or passport card. You should probably make reservations anytime from April through October, you can do that online.
