Australia’s Douglas Mawson explored this region during the British, Australian, New Zealand Antarctic Expedition (BANZARE) 1929–1931. It is uncertain who first sighted the coastline at the Amery Ice Shelf where Davis station is located. Mawson conducted aerial reconnaissance in this region during the BANZARE expedition in January 1931.
