King William IV granted royal assent to the Act on 4 July 1832, and granted the university a royal charter on 1 June 1837, incorporating it and confirming its constitution. [1]
With 27 academic departments offering more than 120 undergraduate courses, our teaching is research-informed and led by dedicated academics, many of whom are world-leading experts in their field. 90% of our subjects are ranked in the UK top 10 in The Complete University Guide 2024.
