Trump, Harris campaign ahead of Tuesday's debate
Reuters Videos9 hours agoSTORY: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin on Saturday, as he tries to solidify support among a key part of his base: working-class and rural whites. [TRUMP] "A very special hello to Wisconsin, we really appreciate it. We've had great success here." Trump won Wisconsin, a key swing state, against Hillary Clinton in 2016, but lost it to President Joe Biden in 2020. But he carried Marathon County, where Mosinee is located, convincingly in both elections. Whites without a college degree, long the linchpin of Trump's coalition, still favor the former president by 25 points, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll. Maintaining Trump's margins within that demographic is crucial, his advisers say, in order for him to win in November against his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris - who is leading Trump among Hispanic and Black voters. Harris, meanwhile, was in Pittsburgh on Saturday, where she welcomed recent endorsements not only from former Republican representative Liz Cheney, but also from her father Dick Cheney, who was Vice President under Republican President George W. Bush. [HARRIS] "I think what they both as leaders, who are leaders that are well respected are making an important statement that it is ok and is important to put country above party and I'm honored to have their support." Harris and Trump will debate each other for the first time in Pittsburgh, with Pennsylvania another key battleground state. [REPORTER TO HARRIS] "Are you ready to face Donald Trump?" [HARRIS] "Yes, I am. Yes."

- 0:47'Manhattan D.A. witch hunt against me has been postponed': TrumpReuters VideosSTORY: :: Trump expresses relief as a judge delays sentencing for his hush money case :: September 6, 2024 :: Charlotte, North Carolina "Big news today is that the Manhattan D.A. witch hunt against me has been postponed because everyone realizes that there was no case because I did nothing wrong. It's a witch hunt. It's a an attack by my political opponents in Washington, D.C..And comrade Kamala Harris and radical left opponents for purposes of election interference. That's all that was.” “Over the past four years, Kamala Harris and the radical Democrat Party have led a war on law enforcement in America. They're against you so strongly. As a result, families that do everything right and carry this country on their shoulders have watched helplessly as their communities dissolved all around them.” The New York judge in former President Donald Trump's hush money trial delayed his sentencing until after the Nov. 5 election, now planned for Nov. 26, unless the case is dismissed before then. Trump’s lawyers had pushed for delaying the sentencing citing "naked election-interference objectives.” Trump also mocked Harris for her debate preparation, claiming she was struggling to focus due to MAGA supporters outside her quarters. Speaking on migration, Trump blamed Harris and the "radical" Democrat Party for a "crime wave" and a "nation-wrecking border invasion," promising to put a an end to these crises if re-elected to the White House. "As soon as I'm back in the White House, the conquest will end and the great liberation of America will begin," said Trump finalizing his speech.1 day ago

- 1:37Hunter Biden pleads guilty to federal tax charges in surprise moveReuters VideosSTORY: Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to federal tax charges on Thursday. It's a surprise move by the son of President Joe Biden that avoids a potentially embarrassing trial weeks before the U.S. presidential election in November. Biden had been set to stand trial in a Los Angeles federal courthouse on criminal charges of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes while spending lavishly on drugs, sex workers and luxury items. Instead, he pleaded guilty to all nine counts he faced. He now faces up to 17 years in prison and up to $450,000 in penalties. :: File Earlier in the day, Biden had offered to plead guilty to the charges but avoid admitting wrongdoing, an unusual legal maneuver called an "Alford plea." Prosecutors opposed that move. :: Bill Hennessy After a break, Biden's lawyer Abbe Lowell told the judge that he would plead guilty, despite having no prior agreement with prosecutors that would ease his sentence. In a statement after the hearing, Biden said he pleaded guilty to spare his family from having to sit through a trial that would have aired messy details from a period of his life where he was suffering from drug addiction. He also said that he had paid back his taxes. Lowell told reporters afterward that Biden might appeal his sentence. :: File :: Bill Hennessy Biden is currently appealing a guilty verdict in a separate case in Delaware for illegally buying a gun while using drugs. That conviction means he could face a stiffer sentence for the tax case if convicted, because he would be a repeat offender. The White House has said President Biden has ruled out pardoning his son. Hunter Biden’s sentencing has been set for December 16.2 days ago
