History. Predating the video game company, Game Freak was a self-published video game magazine created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori in the 1980s. The first issue was published in 1983 by Tajiri. [3] Sugimori would join the magazine at a later date as an illustrator after finding the magazine in a shop and liking it. [4]

Jun 14, 2022 · The company continued to grow from there, and eventually, Tajiri wanted to start producing video games of his own. He began to study programming, and in 1989 Game Freak had its first game, Quinty (called Mendel Palace in the West) published by Namco. Sugimori designed the characters, and the game's music was created by composer Junichi Masuda.
