Oct 29, 2018 · Biography. Gerhard I, Count of Holstein-Itzehoe, was the son of Adolf IV von Schauenburg und Holstein and Hedwig zur Lippe. He married firstly Elisabeth von Mecklenburg (c.1 1250) and had issue, Liutgard married duke John of Brunswick-Luneburg and Albert I of Anhalt-Zerbst. Elisabeth, married Burchard von Wölpe.
Leben. Er war der zweite Sohn von Adolf IV. von Schauenburg und Holstein und Heilwig von der Lippe.Nachdem sein Vater am 13. August 1239 in das von ihm in Kiel gegründete Marienkloster der Franziskaner eingetreten war, regierte Gerhard gemeinsam mit seinem älteren Bruder Johann, anfangs unter der Vormundschaft ihres Onkels Herzog Abel von Schleswig.
