The Art Contest was the 23rd episode of Season 6 of Good Times, also the 132nd overall series episode. Written by Joseph Bonaduce, the episode, which was originally scheduled to serve as the series finale, was directed by Gerren Keith; it aired in syndication on December 13, 1979.

J.J. has entered an art contest he's sure to win. But when he forgets his art portfolio, he relies on Bookman to bring it to the contest. After winning first prize, J.J. realizes that the painting that was entered is the wrong painting.

With the art contest approaching, J.J. believes that he is shoo-in to win. However things don't go as planned after he trusts a distracted Bookman to deliver his painting to the judges.

By rights, J.J. (Jimmie Walker) should be overjoyed at the fact that he has won a prestigious art contest. But J.J. isn't happy at all; it seems that, thanks to a delivery error on the part of landlord Bookman (Johnny Brown), the painting which won the contest is actually the work of one of J.J.'s art students.

Note: Originally slated to air during Good Times' sixth season, this is one of three episodes that were never telecast by CBS, though all have been included in the series' syndication package.
