  2. Jun 29, 2018 · The tubers of seven engineered potato cultivars showed an increased protein content up to 60% as compared to controls (Chakraborty et al., 2010). In addition to increased protein content, the transgenic potato also showed an accelerated rate of photosynthesis that ultimately increased the total biomass/yield of plants.

  4. Sep 14, 2022 · Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) are one of the most important crops worldwide. However, its production and nutrient content are endangered by both biotic and abiotic stresses. The main yield losses are caused by pest damage (e.g., Colorado potato beetle and aphids), virus disease (e.g., Potato leafroll virus and Potato viruses Y and X), or oomycete pathogens (like Phytophthora infestans), which ...

  5. Jan 9, 2022 · Genetically engineered (GE) potato plants, obtained by classical genetic transformation strategies or genome editing tools, with increased resistance to insects, bacteria, fungi, viruses, herbicides, abiotic factors, and/or improved nutritional and post-harvest quality were developed.

  6. Feb 16, 2019 · This was confirmed by Bártová et al. in glasshouse produced tubers of four Andigenum accessions and one Tuberosum cultivar (Desiree): protein content was 5.2–8.0% DW, patatin (the major storage protein) content was 17.1–41.7% of protein and methionine and cysteine were the amino acids with the lowest concentrations in all five genotypes.

  7. The protocol involves a single medium composition throughout, and transformants were obtained within 6–8 wk. To our knowledge, the increase in protein content of genetically modified tubers in this study is one of the highest increases observed in any transgenic crop.

  8. Sep 21, 2010 · Nicknamed 'protato' the protein packed genetically modified (GM) potato contains 60 per cent more protein than a wild-type potato and has increased levels of several amino acids.
