If you’ve ever fished one of Colorado’s magnificent alpine lakes, you were probably captivated by the postcard scenery and by the beauty of our native cutthroat trout.

In Colorado, there is a total of 18 hatcheries raising 30+ species of fish which Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) operate. Twelve of these hatcheries are cold water facilities, two are warm water facilities, two are cold and warm water, and two are USFWS hatcheries. [3]

Colorado fish hatcheries support our angling pastime, contributing $2.4 billion annually to our state’s economy. Many of the fish are produced to enhance angling opportunities, while others serve a critical role in native species recovery efforts.
