CPW hatcheries stock over 2.5 million 10" rainbows (called "Catchables") into public lakes and rivers each year. Kokanee salmon- Kokanee are the land-locked form of sockeye salmon that live in reservoirs throughout the higher elevations.

Rainbow Trout – Rainbows can be found in most mountain lakes and streams, as well as many plains reservoirs. Saugeye – This hybrid of walleye and sauger has been stocked into reservoirs throughout the eastern plains of Colorado since the 1980s.
WMR pro-vides good fishing for Rainbow and Brown Trout, Kokan-ee Salmon and a few other assorted species. The lake is also home to one of the most dense crayfish populations in the area, which serve as a good food source for larger trout.

Since 2014 when the program began, CPW has collected about 100,000 eggs per year from 100 female trout in the east portal. From 2014 to 2019, CPW stocked 80,000 to 100,000 Gunnison River rainbows every year, primarily in the Gunnison and Arkansas rivers.
