Infini radiofrequency insystem combines microneedling technology with fractional radiofrequency to stimulate collagen production, helping to decrease lines and wrinkles, treat acne scars, and improve skin sagging, tone, and texture.

Infini microneedling, patented by Lutronic Aesthetics, is a procedure that combines microneedling and radiofrequency. The Infini device has 49 microscopic needles that conduct radiofrequency energy into the dermis, the second layer of your skin that’s under the epidermis.

Radiofrequency is a nonsurgical method practitioners use to tighten skin. These devices deliver electrical energy into your skin and heat a targeted area to stimulate collagen production. Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses very small needles to cause microinjuries to your skin, which also stimulates collagen production to help repair the injuries.

Unlike microneedling alone, the combination of radiofrequency and microneedling can reach the dermis, making it effective for all skin types, minimizing the risk for hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones, says Denise Wong, MD, FACS.

Individually, microneedling and radiofrequency treat a variety of skin conditions, including:

    •fine lines and wrinkles

    •acne scarring

    •age spots

    •uneven skin tone

    •sagging skin

Microneedling alone is considered an effective procedure.

According to a 2016 research review, with the combination of radiofrequency with microneedling, you can penetrate skin without damaging the overlying epidermis.

The practitioner can adjust the depth of the needles to target different layers of the dermis. This leads to a mechanical microinjury from the needles as well as a thermal tissue microinjury. As a result, your body generates a wound-healing response, resulting in elastin and collagen production, and cell turnover.

Since Infini microneedling does not damage the epidermis, there is minimal risk of hyperpigmentation, making it a better choice for medium or dark skin tones.

In general, the Infini microneedling procedure is considered safe. Side effects are till possible however.

Following treatment, you may notice swelling and redness or discoloration on and around the targeted area. This should be temporary and typically resolves in fewer than 3 days.

Once the treatment area is determined, the practitioner will numb your skin with a topical numbing cream. This can take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to take effect.

Your practitioner will then use the Infini handheld device to gently puncture or stamp your skin with the Infini radiofrequency’s gold-coated microneedles. This delivers radiofrequency energy to the dermis layer of your skin. You will feel a light pricking sensation when the needles enter your skin.

The radiofrequency energy heats the deep layers of your skin to stimulate collagen production. New York dermatologist Hadley King, MD, says the procedure allows energy to be delivered in a controlled and precise manner.

The entire procedure takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete. There will be minimal downtime.

You may notice redness or discoloration or a rough feeling to your skin for 1 to 2 days after the procedure. Rarely, people experience mild bleeding or bruising at the treatment site. Most people can resume their regular makeup and skin care routine within 48 hours.

A minimum of three treatments is recommended, with three to five being the most common. Your practitioner will likely space these procedures 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Results vary for each person. Since it takes time to produce collagen, King says full results take about 3 months. But the stimulated collagen can be long-lasting, she says, and last up to a couple of years. In general, a touch-up procedure is recommended every 12 to 18 months.

See below for examples of Infini Microneedling treatments.

The amount you’ll pay depends on the area treated and the practitioner performing the procedure. In general, each session can range from $1,000 to more than $5,000. Infini microneedling is unlikely to be covered by medical insurance as it’s considered an aesthetic and not medical procedure. Speak with your practitioner about an installment plan or ...

In general, Infini microneedling is considered safe for all skin types. Additionally, it’s considered to be a good option for people with olive or darker skin, since the top layer of skin is not treated, reducing the risk of pigment changes. Other procedures can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation, which darkens the skin more often than usual after treatment.

This procedure is considered ideal for mild to moderate skin sagging, scarring, fine lines, or creases. “Infini radiofrequency microneedling can reduce the signs of skin aging to improve fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and skin laxity, and treat acne scars,” Wong says.

Wong says this procedure is not recommended for people:

•with open or poor healing skin wounds or skin infections

    •who had recent radiation treatment

    •with compromised immune systems

Many board certified plastic surgeons and dermatologists use microneedling with radiofrequency. That said, each doctor may use a different machine to perform the procedure.

With that in mind, you will need to call and ask whether a practitioner uses the Infini handheld device.

To locate a cosmetic surgeon, you can use a list provided by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. You can find a board certified dermatologist from the American Academy of Dermatology Association.
