   Amidst all this glorious mess, Flowers is ultimately about mental illness and depression and is apt in pairing this disturbing reality with hilarity. Obviously, it is very dark. A bit too dark for comedy, and too mad for drama: truly original stuff.

   • Again Flowers has somehow managed to be serious and sensitive about mental illness as well as being hilarious. Again, most of the humour has come from Sharpe’s character Shun, even if he has had less of a purpose now he is no longer illustrating the books that Maurice is no longer writing, and has become something of an alcoholic.

   • Bleak black humour at it's brilliant best, the first season of Flowers is absolutely wonderful. It is a very dark comedy that will not be appreciated by everyone, it's the type that the British do very well, but if this is what you're into it'd be difficult to find something better. Firstly, casting is simply brilliant.

   • Bloody hell, The Good Life this is not. Flowers is dark. But not just shockingly dark, gloriously dark, rich and imaginative, bold, challenging and startling, with a worrying hint of truth about it. Maybe you, too, recognise some of it? Beautifully performed, too, especially by Colman (of course), Barratt and Sharpe.
