     The ISO3166 currency codes (840 for U.S. Dollar, etc.) are not available in the .Net framework. All you can get from the RegionInfo class is the ISO4217 currency code (ISOCurrencyCode) (e.g. USD) and the CurrencySymbol (e.g. $).

     You will, I'm afraid, have to download a list of the data and do the mapping yourself.

     For example: How would I obtain 'GBP' just from the locale string 'en-GB' using JavaScript?

     Just because your locale is en-GB (speaks/prefers British English) does not assume that you are dealing in GBP (English pounds). You could live in another part of the world and deal in other currencies that are not tied to Britain.

     As Bergi explains:

     "No, this is impossible. A currency might be used in any number of countries, where any number of languages might be spoken. There is no universal currency-to-language mapping. (You could come up with one yourself, but it likely would be wrong)."

     You would have to created your own look-up and formatter function. I assume you want to retrieve the currency for a given country.

     Note: Instead of relying on a locale, maybe you should create a mapping of ISO 316 country codes (alpha-2 or alpha-3) to their preferred ISO 4217 currency code?

     Anyways, here is a naïve locale to currency code conversion lookup:

     The VBA code cannot be integrated to the Javacode which creates the data validation. The VBA code runs within the Excel GUI while the Java code only creates the Excel file and does not interact with Excel's GUI in any case.

     Your provided VBA code is special code for Worksheet_Change event. So it runs every time when something changes on the worksheet it is applied to. So it is able providing additional functionality after someone has selected a value from datavalidation dropdown. It gives the user the possibility to select multiple values, one after the other, for the cell.

     What one could do to combinate that with apache poi code is having a *.xlsm template which has the Worksheet_Change applied to a worksheet already. Then apache poi can open that template, add data validation and write that to a new *.xlsm file.

     Example:

     the ExcelResult.xlsm has the datavalidation in first sheet in range A1:A10001. And since it has the Worksheet_Change Sub applied to that sheet too, it provides the additional functionality as long as running macro code will be allowed.

     You can specify the position of the newly added sheet by

     ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Add after:=ThisWorkbook.Sheets(<index>)-

     where <index> is number from 1 to count of sheets.

     This one adds a new sheet to the end the workbook:

     ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Add after:=ThisWorkbook.Sheets(ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Count)-

     You may consider using an external template file for adding new sheet from a preformatted/prefilled template (.xltx):

     ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Add after:=ThisWorkbook.Sheets(ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Count), Type:=<full spec of template file>-

     The template file can contains only 1 sheet.

     Sheet addition will implicitly activate the sheet, so you can name it after adding with

     Activesheet.Name="something"-

     For checking validity of the entered sheet name you can simply let Excel do its job while getting ready for exceptions like

     • PLease note the On Error clauses, They are very useful but can easily mislead you when using incorrectly.
