Jack St. Clair Kilby (8 November 1923 - 20 June 2005) was an American electrical engineer who took part, along with Robert Noyce of Fairchild Semiconductor, in the realization of the first integrated circuit while working at Texas Instruments (TI) in 1958.

Description (Brief): Jack Kilby’s demonstration of the first working integrated circuit (IC) in 1958 revolutionized the field of microelectronics. Instead of using discrete transistors, resistors, and capacitors to form a circuit, Kilby’s IC design integrated a transistor, a capacitor, and the equivalent of three resistors all on the same ...
integrated circuit. Subjects Of Study: transistor. Jack Kilby (born Nov. 8, 1923, Jefferson City, Mo., U.S.—died June 20, 2005, Dallas, Texas) American engineer and one of the inventors of the integrated circuit, a system of interconnected transistors on a single microchip.

Nov 19, 2023 · On September 12, 1958, Kilby demonstrated a working integrated circuit in the form of an oscillator. While primitive compared to modern microchips with billions of transistors, this first IC proved the concept and sparked the integrated circuit revolution.
Mary Bellis. Updated on March 31, 2017. Electrical engineer Jack Kilby invented the integrated circuit, also known as the microchip. A microchip is a set of interconnected electronic components such as transistors and resistors that are etched or imprinted onto a tiny chip of a semiconducting material, such as silicon or germanium.

Kilby fabricated three types of circuits to test his idea: a flip flop, a multi vibrator and a phase shift oscillator. This chip is the phase-shift oscillator. The first IC was made out of a thin slice of germanium (the light blue rectangle) as a bulk resistor and contained a single bipolar transistor (under the large aluminum bar in the center).
